OYAP Young Leaders: The Beginning

Well here we are at the start of an incredibly exciting journey! Last week I met all of this year’s Young Leaders and it was inspiring to meet so many people passionate about the arts and intent on expanding their experience.Follow my blog with Bloglovin

As with anything new I was nervous to begin with. I wasn’t really sure what to expect or how the day would pan out, but suffice to say nerves soon flew out the window. After spending the first hour or so chatting to everyone and learning about their backgrounds we all seemed to be a lot more relaxed and ready to get going, aided by an eclectic mix of postcards! We then moved on to learning about what the programme would include, what we could expect from it and what we could offer ourselves. At the end of the day we will all be supporting each other throughout the programme and so it’s up to us to help and share our own knowledge whilst learning from others. It was so inspiring to hear what the other leaders wanted and what they felt they could offer the rest of the group!

After a bit of lunch we then moved on to a really fun exercise with some of the Festive Road company, creating replicas of famous artworks through drama, installations, collages… basically any which way. This was SUCH a fun exercise and really interesting to see how different groups approached it and the entirely different ways in which people presented their art work.

Overall the first session was a really great icebreaker and I’m so excited to see what the future will bring. I can’t wait to get started!
